May 3, 2018 Luncheon
A beautiful sunny May day set the tone for our last luncheon of the season. It was a fun and relaxed time as we enjoyed lunch and an insightful presentation by our guest speaker, Tana Suter. Tana lives in the Regency Reserve and comes to us with 40 years of experience in Human Resources. Her talk was "Resilience Reloaded: The Prerequisite to Aging Successfully (if not gracefully)." She spoke with us about resilience as we age and how to handle life's challenges. The concept of Post Traumatic Growth was particularly eye-opening. She regaled us with an hilarious story about her first encounter with a too-tight body shaper! It brought home the importance of keeping a sense of humor and an optimistic outlook.
Sandi McNickle gave us the thought for the day that left us laughing.
We elected our new officers for the RWC 2018-2019 season. We started February by learning more about African-American History and Benjamin Banneker, from his Grandmother, Molly, portrayed by Elaine Flynn. We were held spell-bound as she told us of his early beginnings and his impact to present day. Her coverage of key African-Americans reminded us of the sacrifices and contributions these men and women have made throughout our nation's history. She encouraged members to visit the African American History Museum in Washington, D.C.
The Nominating Committee for the 2018-2019 season's slate of candidates were introduced and accepted. They are: Nancy Bellis, Mariann Chapla, Amelia Garcia, Dahri May, and Ruth Nagy. The slate will be introduced at the March meeting, where nominations from the floor will also be accepted.
